The Mac Studio has been updated with the M4 Max and the all-new M3 Ultra chips. It is aimed at video editors, developers, engineers, photographers, and creative professionals.

With the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips, Apple originally announced the Mac Studio in 2022. With the new M4 Max and M3 Ultra models, you can render 3D graphics, edit videos, compile code, and execute other tasks more quickly.

Apple Mac Studio:

The baseline Mac Studio has the M4 Max chip, which features a configurable 14-16-core CPU, 32-40-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. You get a standard of 36GB of unified memory, upgradeable to 128GB with 546GB/s bandwidth. Storage starts at 512GB and tops out at 8TB.

With 28-32 cores of CPU, 60-80 cores of GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine, the M3 Ultra chip takes things up a notch. Apple’s premier desktop now comes standard with 36GB of unified memory (rather than 32GB), which can be configured to 512GB (800GB/s bandwidth), as Apple proudly claims—”the most unified memory ever found on a personal computer.” SSD storage capacity can also be expanded to 16TB.

Apple says the M1 Ultra has 1.8x faster CPU performance and 2.6x faster GPU rendering. The M3 Ultra Mac Studio can also run large language models (LLMs) with over 600 billion parameters.

The new M3 Ultra Mac Studio supports up to 24 streams of 8K ProRes video playback using H.264, HEVC, and ProRes encode and decode. Up to eight displays can also be connected to the device.

The M4 Max’s back has four Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) ports, and the M3 Ultra Mac Studios’s front has two. In addition to the two USB-A ports on the back, there is also an HDMI 2.1 port, a 10GB/s Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The front of the device also has a UHS-II SDXC card reader. However, wireless connectivity is still limited to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Pricing:

In India, the Mac Studio M4 Max with 36GB/512GB cost Rs.2,14,900/-. The Mac Studio M3 Ultra will cost Rs.4,29,900/- for 96GB/1TB.

The pre-order period is now open, with deliveries scheduled for March 12.
