Especially when we’re all on board with the same basic shape for smartphones, a manufacturer’s choice of materials can make their phones stand out from the crowd. We often hear phone manufacturers trying something new with ceramics, but there are times when steel, aluminium, or titanium are used. According to a new rumour, Samsung’s eagerly anticipated Galaxy S25 Edge could use ceramic materials for its construction.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra features Corning Gorilla Armor 2, a “glass-ceramic” material with exceptionally robust properties. Samsung could return to ceramics for its S25 Edge, the extra-thin addition to its lineup that was teased at last month’s Unpacked event. Currently, we anticipate launching sometime around April or May.
The S25 Edge’s back panel uses ceramics to enhance durability, but we don’t get much more detail beyond that. According to SamMobile, ceramics are involved, but whether it is a traditional ceramic or something like Gorilla Armor 2 hasn’t been revealed.
Ceramics make good sense for a phone like the Galaxy S25 Edge because of their material properties. Despite its brittleness, it’s likely to interest Samsung due to its low weight and high durability combination. Still, its combination of low weight and high durability should make it quite appealing.
