Samsung is rumored to launch its Galaxy S25 series in January 2025. In addition to the phones, Samsung could also unveil its Samsung XR glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

According to Yonhap, Samsung could reveal a photo or video of its prototype of “AR glasses” at the Galaxy Unpacked event rumored to launch the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025, according to Jukanlosreve on X. According to previous rumors, the product will be launched around the third quarter of 2025.

Samsung’s glasses may weigh around 50g and will resemble regular sunglasses. Using artificial intelligence, the devices are said to be able to handle payments, recognize gestures, and recognize faces.

The XR platform on which these AR glasses are based is slated to be unveiled this month ahead of the prototype release. On these AR glasses and the XR platform, Samsung has been working with Google and Qualcomm.

Interestingly, this report refers to Samsung’s glasses as AR glasses, although Samsung itself refers to them as XR devices. Samsung’s hardware may be limited to Augmented Reality (AR), while its software platform may accommodate AR, VR, and XR devices going forward.

Qualcomm’s AR1 chipset is expected to be the primary processor in Samsung’s XR/AR glasses, with an NXP chip serving as an auxiliary processor. Another rumored specification includes a 12MP Sony IMX681 CMOS sensor and a 155mAh battery. Smart glasses like the RayBan Meta could benefit from the AI touch provided by Google Gemini.
