Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is Qualcomm’s latest budget 5G chipset designed for developing markets. Xiaomi was announced as the first customer for the $99 solution. Next week, Qualcomm and their partner will unveil the first smartphone powered by the 4s Gen 2 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024.

It’s not a direct successor to last year’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, but rather a more affordable 5G option. Featuring a 4nm manufacturing process, it is designed for budget-conscious consumers. In essence, the 4s Gen 2 is just an underclocked version of the 4 Gen 2: 2x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

The Redmi 13 series is likely to be the first device to feature this chipset. MediaTek’s Dimensity 6100+ SoC is another $99 5G chip designed for developing markets, and Xiaomi currently offers the Redmi 13C 5G for under Rs 10,000.

Redmi’s upcoming phone may feature a 6.7-inch LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and HD+ resolution. The device is expected to feature a 50MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, a 5,000mAh battery, 18W charging, Android 14 with MIUI, and Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processors.
