Apple reportedly plans to phase out 60Hz displays in the upcoming iPhone 17 series. According to industry insider Ross Young (tweet now removed), the standard iPhone 17 and the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air will feature 120Hz high refresh rate displays. With this move, Apple moves its entire iPhone lineup into the high refresh rate era, previously reserved for Pro models.

Only Apple’s Pro models feature a 120Hz ProMotion display with an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz, while Apple’s standard models have a 60Hz refresh rate.

Both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will feature LTPO OLED panels, which are expected to offer variable refresh rates and improved battery life. According to reports, BOE, a Chinese manufacturer of displays, is supplying these panels.

Along with the display upgrade, the iPhone 17 series will see a change in its lineup. As a result of poor sales, Apple will replace the Plus model with the iPhone 17 Air. In addition to its ultra-thin design, the Air model is expected to sell for around $899, similar to the iPhone 15 Plus.

This is not a flagship model but rather a stylish option between the regular iPhone 17 and the Pro model. Users who prefer aesthetics over high-end features should consider this model.

According to rumours, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will also receive additional display upgrades, such as an under-display Face ID system that would reduce the cutout size for the front camera.

Apple is expected to launch its iPhone 17 series in late 2025, continuing its trend of incremental, yet noteworthy upgrades.
