The Pixel-something-or-other is almost certain to end up as a Pro, Fold, or XL, but that’s not how it started. Before a Made by Google event is held, and months before hardware is available on retailer shelves, Pixel phones have a codename. Check out how the next generation of Pixel phones is shaping up, and what those codenames might be.

Next spring, the Pixel 9a is likely to launch on our radar on the Pixel horizon. A new report by AndroidHeadlines confirms the codename “tegu” for that phone. In addition to the Pixel 9a, the site also reveals potential codenames for all Pixel 10 models.

This source indicates that the Pixel 10 will be called “Frankel.” It seems we might be getting another double-dip next year, with the Pixel 10 Pro referred to as “Blazer” and the Pixel 10 Pro XL as “Mustang.” There’s also a new folder in development, called “RangoBetween Frankel, Mustang, and Blazer, we’re definitely onto a horse theme here, and while Rango isn’t similarly a breed, we can see why it might have Western connotations.
