An official teaser video for Huawei’s upcoming tri-foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, has been released, featuring actor Andy Lau. As a result of its unique design, this new Mate X5 takes foldable technology to the next level by adding a portion of the screen.
The triple-fold design of the Huawei Mate XT stands out in the video. With dual hinges supporting a large screen, the device features a slim look when unfolded. With its unfolded screen size of 10 inches, the device offers a tablet-like experience, making it 50 percent larger than traditional foldable devices. In addition, a stylus is expected to be included.
Based on the Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design, the phone’s back design features an octagonal rear camera module with a periscope telephoto lens. Huawei and Ultimate Design branding are prominently displayed at the bottom of the rear panel, which is fashioned from vegan leather.
Huawei can keep the unfolded thickness under 5mm despite the complex folding mechanism. The phone looks like a regular smartphone when folded, as shown above.
The Mate XT’s technical specifications have not yet been revealed by Huawei. It has been reported that the device will be powered by the company’s Kirin 9-series chipset.
Due to its tri-foldability, the Mate XT is expected to be available in limited quantities. The device is estimated to cost 14,900 Yuan (~$2,000). On Sept. 10, the device is expected to become official.
According to Huawei CEO Richard Yu, this project took five years to complete, and the Mate XT sets a new standard for mobile devices of the future.
