Google today pushed Android 15 to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Source code milestones usually coincide with Pixel updates. Google held the big Material You redesign until the Pixel 6 unveiling in 2021, the last time this didn’t happen.
Android 15 gives app developers more time to optimize their apps. This will be accomplished by creating a “new educational series called Spotlight Weeks, which will focus on technical topics across Android, starting with Android 15.” Google says it is “looking forward to seeing how your apps take advantage of the updates in Android 15.”
The Android 15 Pixel update is expected in October, according to Google today. As of now, Android 15 will be available on “select devices” from Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi.
Updates for Pixel devices are still scheduled for October, but we do not have a specific date yet. Google usually releases updates on the first Monday of each month. The date could be October 7.
There are a lot of changes under the hood, and most of the user-facing features will be released in feature drops over the next few months. In Android 15, however, music search is available in Circle to Search. You can search for songs without switching apps. It works for songs playing on social media or nearby music. Now it’s available on non-Pixel devices, just like Now Playing on Pixel devices. Circle to Search can be accessed by long-pressing the home button or navigation bar, and then tapping the music button.
