Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip during the upcoming Snapdragon Summit event in October. Several key details about the SoC have been revealed in previous leaks. According to a new report, Qualcomm prioritizes efficiency over raw power in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Smartprix shows several specs from an alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 datasheet and confirms that there will be two variants. Samsung has slightly overclocked Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile SoCs for its “Galaxy Ultras.” The company appears to be sticking to its strategy. A standard model is SM8750, while a “for Galaxy” variant is SM8750P.

Sources say the chip will boost power but won’t revolutionize things. Based on a leaked Geekbench listing, the chipset performed less well than expected in multi-core tests. A recent benchmark showed a multi-core result of 8,840 points when the initial expectation was for over 10,000 points.

During development, the company would have prioritized efficiency and sustained performance. Yet its latest benchmarks place it above Apple’s Bionic chip. Qualcomm is using TSMC’s 3nm process to produce its new flagship SoC. For the first time in years, the company will once again implement custom cores. Specifically, the Snapdragon X lineup for ARM laptops will feature Oryon cores.

In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is predicted to raise the bar when it comes to AI processing. Qualcomm Sensing Hub will improve audio, camera, and sensor features, as well as on-device generative AI. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has a 2+6 architecture with 2x premium cores (4.0 GHz) and 6 “efficiency” cores at 2.8 GHz. Additionally, it is said to feature a new Adreno 830 GPU and Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 modem. It is expected that Xiaomi will debut the chip in its flagship Xiaomi 15 series.
