This year, Google is holding its hardware launch event two months early, on August 13. In addition to the Pixel 9 family, the Pixel Watch 3 is expected to be unveiled at the same time. The FCC has already confirmed that the Pixel Watch will be available in two sizes for the first time.
According to a new leak, a source inside Google revealed more details today. The Pixel Watch 3 is said to be powered by a Snapdragon W5 SoC coupled with a custom coprocessor.
There will be a 310mAh battery in the 41mm Watch 3, and a 420mAh battery in the 45mm Watch 3. Compared with the Pixel Watch 2, the smaller Watch 3 has a 32×32 mm display, while the larger Watch 3 XL has a 36×36 mm display. Their resolutions are 408×408 and 456×456, respectively.
Although the overall design will not change from the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, the screen bezels will be slightly smaller. The circular bezel of the Pixel Watch 3 will be trimmed by one full millimetre, going from 5.5mm to 4.5mm.
A peak brightness of 2,000 nits will also be available on the new watch’s screen. That’s a much higher brightness than the Pixel Watch 2.
As confirmed by the FCC, the Pixel Watch 3 will support UWB, which will enable precise device tracking with Google’s Find My Device service. If car brands are open to the idea – BMW, Hyundai, and Kia already support UWB for this purpose, but they will need to support the Pixel Watch 3 specifically, so we’ll see how it goes.
There will be three case colours available with the 41mm Pixel Watch 3: silver, black, and gold. Hazel, black, and silver cases will be available for the 45mm model.
