According to rumours out of China, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have improved charging rates. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can charge up to 27W with a cable and up to 15W with MagSafe wireless charging, but this year’s models may be able to charge up to 30W with a cable.
According to reports, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will support 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe wireless charging. It is important to note that those are peak rates, and they won’t be reached until quite a bit later in the charging process.
It’s unclear how increasing the peaks will affect the actual charging time on these phones since that’s the main concern. Although Apple is still a long way from Chinese companies’ 120W wired and 50W wireless peaks, it’s good to see Apple growing a bit in its charging rates.
According to the source of this rumour, the increased peak charging rate is intended to compensate for upcoming battery increases on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max – basically, Apple wants them to charge at least as fast as their predecessors, even with bigger batteries.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumoured to receive these exact improvements in charging, as well as using stacked battery technology which allows for higher capacities and longer life.
As usual, Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in September alongside the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
