At the Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung presented the Galaxy Z Fold6, a thinner, lighter phone with a new aspect ratio. With a notable upgrade to its camera system, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is slimmer, lighter, tougher, and smarter than its 2023 predecessor.
Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 are the first foldables with particle ingress protection – IP48. While that doesn’t prevent dust from entering, it should keep out larger particles. As before, the device is water resistant up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) for 30 minutes. It uses enhanced versions of Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, making it the most durable Z Flip to date. Like the S24 series, the device uses recycled cobalt, rare earth elements, plastic, aluminium, and glass. Paper packaging is 100% recycled
Galaxy Z Fold6:
Design:
One of the most important changes brought by the Galaxy Z Fold6 is the slightly different aspect ratio of its cover screen. Although it isn’t conventional, the 22.1:9 aspect ratio is noticeably better than the 23.1:9 in the outgoing model.
Together with the new aspect ratio, the diagonal of the cover display increased slightly as well to 6.3″.
When unfolded, the Galaxy Fold6 is 1.5 mm shorter and 2.9 mm wider than the Galaxy Fold5. Aside from being 0.5 mm thinner when unfolded (1.3 mm when folded), it is also 14g lighter than its predecessor. At 239g, it’s one of the lightest foldables on the market and only 7g heavier than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Samsung even added a 1.6x larger vapor chamber compared to the Fold5, to further enhance heat dissipation. A first among foldable, the Fold6 is also IP48 certified for dust protection. It only protects from solid particles over 1 mm in size, but that’s still better than what we had before.
Specs:
The Galaxy Z Fold6 5G will sport the new two Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays of 7.6 inches with a resolution of 2176 x 1856 pixels (21.6:18 aspect ratio) with a 120Hz refresh rate. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top and there is a secondary 6.2-inch HD+ AMOLED display (2316 x 968p). There is an Armor Aluminium frame.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 5G is indeed powered by SD 8 Gen 3 SoC coupled with 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB internal storage space. It comes with triple rear cameras featuring 50MP with f / 1.8, 1.8 µm, OIS, 2PD, 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.4, OIS, with 3x optical zoom and 12MP ultra-wide sensor with 123-degrees FoV, f/2.2 aperture with LED flash.
There is a new 4MP under-display selfie camera on the internal display with an f/1.8 aperture. There is a 10MP selfie camera on the external display with an f/2.2 aperture. The Galaxy Z Fold6 5G is also certified with an IP48 rating making it dust and water-resistant. It also gets S-Pen support, wireless charging, and Dolby Atmos speakers.
The connectivity option includes a Single SIM with 4G LTE and VoLTE support, 5G, NFC, A-GPS, GLONASS, NaVIC, USB Type-C, Wifi-6, and Bluetooth 5.3. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device runs on Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1 on top.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 ships with a 4400 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support and 15W wireless charging. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be available in three colours: Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow. Last but not least, the new foldable is thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
Galaxy Z Flip6:
The new Galaxy Z Flip6 5G will sport the same 6.7 inches (2640 x 1080p) Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO foldable FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. There is an Armor Aluminium frame on the phones and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will protect the display. It comes with Corning Gorilla Victus+ on top with a larger 3.4-inch (748 x 720p) OLED secondary HD display. It is now powered by SD 8 Gen 3 SoC coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB/512GB internal storage.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 5G still features the new set of dual rear cameras with a 50MP main wide sensor with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, dual PD, and 12MP ultra-wide f/2.2 aperture with 123-degrees FoV and LED flash. There is the same 10MP selfie sensor with an aperture of f/2.4.
For Flex Mode (i.e. when holding the phone half-folded so it acts as its own tripod), Auto Zoom is an AI-powered feature. Hands-free group photos are possible with the zoom feature, which automatically zooms in and out to get the best framing for a shot. It has been extended to support video HDR in Nightography. Instagram offers advanced image processing features.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 5G features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and gets an IPX8 rating making it dust and water-resistant. The connectivity option includes Dual SIM (1-eSIM+1-SIM) with Dual 4G LTE and VoLTE support, 5G. There is also Wifi 6E, A-GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth 5.3, USB Type-C port, and NFC.
The device packs a 4000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging & 15W wireless charging. It runs on Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1 on top. It folds into a pocket-friendly size (85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9 mm) while remaining lightweight at 187g. When unfolded (165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm).
There are several colour options available for the phone, including Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint, but Samsung.com has some exclusive options including Crafted Black, White, and Peach.
Galaxy AI Features:
They will run Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 on top, which includes Galaxy AI. There will be features like Circle to Search, Interpreter Mode, and Notes Summarization available to users. However, there is no mention of any new AI features for foldables.
Other AI features also use the Flex Display, such as Suggested Replies, which analyzes your recent messages and suggests a response to incoming messages so you don’t have to open or type with your phone closed. Samsung Health notifications can also be displayed. Widgets have been added for even more customization, and you can have multiple widgets on at the same time.
Pricing:
The Z Flip 6 comes in Blue, Mint, and Silver Shadow colours, and the Z Fold 6 comes in Silver Shadow, Navy, and Pink. Silver Shadow is the only colour available for the Z Fold 6 1TB model.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 with 12GB/256GB costs Rs.1,09,990/- whereas the 12GB/512GB at Rs.1,21,999/- in India. The Galaxy Z Fold6 with 12GB/256GB costs Rs.1,64,999/-, 12GB/512GB at Rs.1,76,999/- and 12GB/1TB at Rs.2,00,100/- in India.
