Lei Jun revealed Xiaomi will launch Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip foldables this month. According to the company’s founder and CEO, the phones will be the first devices to come out of the new Xiaomi Smart Factory in Changping, Beijing.
With an area of 81,000 square meters, the facility will be able to produce 10 million flagship phones a year. Xiaomi invested CNY 2.4 billion (about $330 million) in the factory and explained on Weibo exactly what was improved.
Jun describes the plant as having an intelligent manufacturing platform. In order to improve processes, it can make independent decisions and execute them. This includes diagnosing equipment issues and even automating raw material and component purchases, Xiaomi explained.
With 3.5 weeks left in this month, we should soon begin seeing teasers for the Fold 4 that is reportedly going global. Whether Xiaomi’s clamshell foldable Mix Flip will experience the same fate is unknown.
