A new generation of 3nm SoCs was introduced by Apple in October 2023, including the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. Apple’s latest MacBook Pro models were powered by these chipsets. Cupertino is apparently working on its successor, the M4 SoC. It is reported that Apple will launch new MacBook Pro models with the M4 chip in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young, panel shipments for new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will begin in the third quarter of 2024.
Like last year, the products will be launched towards the end of the year. The M4 chipset was recently introduced on the new iPad Pro model, but the first Mac is still a few months away. It has a 10-core CPU with four performance cores and six efficiency cores. It is 50 percent faster than Apple’s M2 SoC.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will refresh both the MacBook Pro and Mac mini this year. A M4 chip will power the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, while M4 Pro and M4 Max chips will power the 14-inch and 16-inch models. In the future, the Mac mini will receive the M4 and M4 Pro chipsets. Until at least 2025, the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will not have the M4 chips. The timing of Apple’s iMac refresh with the new chipset is also unclear.
