This year, Siri, Apple’s digital assistant, has been at the center of attention at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Apple Insider has uncovered the clearest glimpse yet of Siri’s upcoming iPhone apps from sources close to Apple’s AI projects.
Apple has been focusing heavily on improving Siri’s ability to understand natural language commands, according to the leak. Siri has been trained with intentionally vague requests, such as “I’m feeling nostalgic” or “I want to make a blog.”
Siri will no longer require specific syntax for tasks. Users will be able to say something more natural, such as “Hey Siri, I want some coffee,” instead of using precise commands like “turn on the coffee machine.” As part of the leak, Siri is integrated with no less than 18 built-in iPhone apps.
New features on Siri:
- Users will be able to control their cameras using Siri’s voice commands. With voice commands, users can switch between video and photo modes, start a shutter timer, and toggle between front and rear cameras.
- Machine learning is used to automatically classify emails in Apple’s Mail app, borrowing from Gmail. Siri will also compose, send, and schedule emails, mark emails as junk, set reminders, summarize emails, and create “smart replies.”
- A suite of photo editing features powered by generative AI could also be introduced by Apple. There might be similar features to the ones available on Pixel phones, such as removing unwanted objects from photos and filling in gaps with AI, searching for specific photos based on people or animals in them, and applying AI-powered filters.
- Apple’s Siri could offer webpage summaries similar to what Google’s Gemini offers on Android. Voice commands will also be available for creating new tab groups and opening private tabs.
- With Siri, you can record voice memos completely hands-free. With Siri, users can create new recordings, start speaking, stop recording, name them, and move them to specific folders.
Apple leak specialist Mark Gurman notes that not all of these features will be available right away. It is possible that some of these features will be announced at WWDC but they may not be released until 2025 as a result of software updates.
