There have been lots of rumors about Apple’s upcoming iPad upgrade. An OLED iPad Pro and a redesigned iPad Air are being discussed.
According to seasoned Weibo tipster Instant Digital (via MacRumors), the iPad Air and iPad Pro will have landscape front cameras. On both Air and Pro iPads, there is a front-facing camera. In landscape FaceTime calls, users see an off-center view.
With Apple’s 10th-generation iPad, this issue was somewhat addressed. Although Apple hasn’t released any new iPads since then, it seems like the company might continue to improve this technology.
According to iOS 17.4, the upcoming iPad Pro will also have a landscape camera orientation. This camera placement may also be adopted by the redesigned iPad Air, which is rumored to be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch sizes.
It is unclear how this shift will work. Apple Pencil currently connects magnetically to the side of the iPad Pro and iPad Air for charging, which could conflict with a side-mounted camera.
Along with the updated iPads, however, a new Apple Pencil is also rumored to be released. Therefore, Apple may have found a design solution. Within the month, a redesigned iPad Air and a new OLED iPad Pro are expected to be released. Apple’s tablet lineup has undergone a significant design shift focused on improving usability, according to these updates.
