According to Korean publication The Elec, Apple is exploring the foldable market with plans for a 7-inch to 8-inch device that could replace the iPad Mini. It is suggested that the device could launch between 2026 and 2027.
According to rumors, Apple is also working on an OLED iPad mini that could be released in 2026. Therefore, it is unclear whether the rumored device is an iPhone or an iPad.
Apple has reportedly been collaborating behind the scenes with display suppliers Samsung and LG since last year, who have provided 7-inch and 8-inch foldable panel samples.
According to reports, Samsung is leading the race to develop these panels for Apple’s foldable device. It is reported that Apple, Samsung, and LG have divergent views on the design of hinges, cover windows, and ultra-thin glass. Apple’s foldable device could be delayed as a result of this.
Apple is expected to use Samsung’s existing OLED production line if it launches in 2026. According to rumors, a larger foldable device with a 20.5-inch screen is in development, though its development timeframe remains unconfirmed.
Apple’s first foldable device remains a mystery as to its precise form and functionality. Despite this, Apple seems to be considering entering this field.
