According to reports, Qualcomm is working on a chipset that could mimic the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC found in top-end Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in different ways. Instead, the impending silicon is expected to be used by mid-range handsets in the future.

Despite being the first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2024, Sub-Galaxy S24 smartphones will also be able to attract attention, according to Digital Chat Station. Qualcomm is likely to launch a Plus version of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 soon, according to a Weibo-based leaker.

By launching with a lot more in common with recent 4-nanometer (4nm) Snapdragon flagships than might be expected, that chipset continues the trend of 7-series SoCs to be reckoned with. Therefore, the 7 Plus Gen 2 or 7+ Gen 2 has all the main CPU-related specs of the 8+ Gen 1, except that its single ‘main’ Cortex-X2 core is slower at 2.91GHz.

It is expected that Qualcomm will do something very similar with the “SM7675” or putative 7+ Gen 3 chip – but it will skip the 8 Gen 2 series entirely in favor of the 8 Gen 3. As a result, it could have its own 3-cluster core layout with a Cortex-X4 as its “1”, and perhaps even the latest ARM v9.2 architecture.

Ultimately, that could lead to the next-gen POCO F-series or Honor 1×0-series smartphones being taken more seriously by 2024 or beyond, perhaps thanks to AI on board.
