Have you ever wondered how we find the one thing you’re looking for in Earth’s largest selection? At Amazon, we’re all about helping you find the right product and make shopping decisions with ease and confidence. To make sure you can find what you’re looking for, whether you’re a new parent shopping for diapers or a beauty influencer looking for the latest beauty products, we’ve continually updated our product search and discovery experiences.
Once you click on the search bar, we show you your recent searches and trending searches. You can now easily fine-tune your search queries with autocomplete suggestions, spelling corrections, and related searches at the bottom of search results.
In every phase of their shopping journey, we’re testing new features and honing existing ones. Here are a few ways we’ve improved Amazon’s search and discovery.
-
Searching with a combination of images and text:
It’s hard to help a customer find what they want when they don’t know what they want. Let’s say you need a replacement part for a home appliance, but you don’t know what it’s called. You can snap a picture in the search bar and our visual search algorithms will find the best possible matches based on the picture you take.
With our visual search tool, you can now add text to your visual search queries. With a visual search, you’ll see the thumbnail of the image you captured, along with a prompt (“+ Add text”) to add any text to narrow your search results. You can now take a picture of a dishwasher part and type the brand of the appliance (e.g., “Frigidaire”) to narrow your search.

Visualizing products on tables and countertops
You want to know if the item will fit in your room and look good in your space before you buy something, like a sofa, espresso maker, or smart TV. You can now see how a piece of furniture or decor will look in your room by using our View in Your Room feature, which also includes accessories like lamps, home décor, and small appliances like toaster ovens and coffee makers.
With the new mobile experience, you can view the products you are searching for on a tabletop surface at home using augmented reality. Are you unsure whether that coffee maker will fit on your kitchen counter? You can now visualize how it will look in your space and make a more confident purchasing decision by using View in Your Room. If you want to evaluate how the products fit in your environment, you can move them from one surface to another. On the mobile product detail page, click the “View in Your Room” button under the product image.

Discovering popular products with sales trend information
Our store is constantly adding new products because we know what our customers are searching for and buying changes over time. The search results and product detail pages now include sales trend data (e.g., “10K+ bought in the past month”) so that you can learn more about the products you’re looking for. In addition to seeing whether a product has thousands of five-star reviews or is a Best Seller, you can also see how popular it has been recently.

Searching with the sharing feature on mobile
When checking email, browsing social media, or engaging in an online conversation, you often see products you like and want to search for them in Amazon’s Store. With Find-on-Amazon, you can. You can find similar products on Amazon Shopping if you tap the “Share” button, choose the Amazon Shopping app, and click “Find products on Amazon.” You’ll be taken straight to the Amazon Shopping app. There is no need to know what the product is called or how to describe it. Find-on-Amazon makes finding what you want a breeze.

Making it easier to reorder previous purchases
Shoppers often search for previously purchased items, so we’ve made it easier to find them. You’ll see the item at the top of search results with the date of last purchase when we recognize that you’re searching for an item you’ve already purchased. For frequently reordered items, we will also display a thumbnail image of the item in the search bar so you can easily click on the product detail page and complete the purchase.
Amazon pays close attention to customer feedback about the shopping experience on the site since customer trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. To make shopping in our store even easier, we’re always experimenting. While we test new features, sometimes things may look different, but our mission remains the same: to help you find what you need.
