Majin Bu, an Apple researcher, shared details about the iPhone X’s USB Type-C cable. Among the highlights of his post is the claim that Apple’s iPhone 15 USB Type-C cable is limited to USB 2.0. Because of this, iPhone users won’t see any difference in data transfer speeds.
It is possible to transfer data at speeds up to 480Mbps with USB 2.0. This means iPhone 15 users will receive the same data transfer speed as Lightning cables. After recent rumors of Thunderbolt support, fans were hoping for faster file transfers on the next-gen models.
With this support, iPhone data transfer speeds would have been 40 times faster than with Lightning ports. Thunderbolt can deliver 40Gbps speeds, which is significantly faster than USB 3.0. We may only see Thunderbolt on the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro models. In Apple’s Pro lineup, superior features are reserved for models that are considered professional. Apple may also limit USB-C cables to USB 2.0 speeds while offering Thunderbolt cables separately.
The iPhone 15 USB-C cable will be 1.6 meters long, according to researcher Bu. Current iPhone models come with a Lightning cable that is 1 meter long. There will be no MFi restrictions on the new cable, which is said to be thicker and more resistant.
Data transfer speeds on iPhone are unknown, but recent rumours claim that the iPhone 15 will have faster charging speeds. The upcoming iPhone series is said to support wired charging up to 35W.
