In order to find out more about the upcoming iPhone 15 series and whether the Lightning connector will be replaced with USB-C, ChargerLAB got their hands on some exclusive photos revealing something interesting about the port.
Apple’s new iPhones feature a Retimer chip, often used in Thunderbolt-enabled devices for reconstructing signals and reducing signal jitter. As a result, the upcoming iPhones will support Thunderbolt.
The Thunderbolt support might only be available for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, according to ChargeLAB. This may be a major issue for some users who rely on quick data transfers between devices.
In comparison, a typical Thunderbolt interface can go up to 40 Gbps, while the Lightning port is capped at 480 Mbps. Thunderbolt also supports higher power input and output, which could result in faster charging.
