On Monday, August 14, Xiaomi will announce the Mix Fold 3 after months of rumors and teasers. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun will introduce the device as well as hold his annual talk event at 7PM Beijing time (11AM UTC). According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi is aiming to deliver an “all-around flagship without shortcomings” and the marketing poster describes the device as “defining a new standard for foldable displays”.
Lei Jun detailed the Mix Fold 3’s development process in a separate post on Weibo, which required Xiaomi engineers to reconstruct the device’s structure and its folding screen. Furthermore, Xiaomi released a teaser video showing off Mix Fold 3’s revised design.
A completely new hinge mechanism is also hinted at. A teaser poster shows the four Leica-tuned cameras on the back of the Mix Fold 3, which will feature periscope lenses and Leica branding. Mix Fold 3 is expected to remain exclusive to China and not be available internationally.
First Look:
In an early peek at the phone’s refined design, founder and CEO Lei Jun offers an early glimpse of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 on August 14 (Monday). In three words, Jun describes it as slim, elegant, and premium.
A closer look at the four Leica cameras reveals their focal lengths at the near and far ends – 15mm ultra-wide and 115mm periscope. There was also a 15mm ultra-wide on the old Mix Fold 2, but it had just a 45mm portrait camera with 2x zoom, so going to 115mm is remarkable.
