Apple is currently deciding between September 12 and 13 for its iPhone 15 event, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and 9to5Mac. It is more likely, however, that the 12th scenario will occur.
Apple’s carrier partners are one source of information. Employees are being told not to take time off on Wednesday, September 13, due to a “major smartphone announcement”. According to Gurman, however, things can still change before September 12.
There will be some pre-recorded videos reminding us of the pandemic era at Apple’s event, but most will be live presentations. There will be a live audience at Apple’s campus and hands-on experience with the iPhone 15 lineup is on the agenda.
iPhone 15 Pro extra GPU core & 6GB RAM:
URedditor posted a new rumor about the A17 Bionic chip, which will have a 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU. There is an increase of one GPU core for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users with the current A16 Bionic chip.
As well, the A17 Bionic’s CPU will run at a maximum speed of 3.70 GHz, up from 3.46 GHz on the A16 Bionic.
One of the most interesting details revealed in today’s leak is that A17 Bionic’s RAM is set to be 6GB, matching the A16 Bionic’s. According to earlier rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro will feature an upgraded 8GB of RAM. They’ve seen only 6GB so far and note that 8GB is “unlikely, but not impossible.”
Apple will only use the A17 Bionic chip in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As with the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will use last year’s A16 chip. In the iPhone 15 Pro, the combination of the increased clock speed, the extra GPU core, and the new 3nm fabrication process should result in notable improvements in performance and efficiency.
