According to a Xiaomi executive, most of its smartphone models in the Indian market will soon receive a software update that will support 5G.

A select number of smartphone models have already received the update from the Chinese tech giant. Currently, Xiaomi India’s President Muralikrishnan B says that 100% of their 5G smartphone models are compatible with the NSA 5G network, which can be chosen from network settings as ‘Prefer 5G’. The FOTA updates have already begun rolling out to select Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Mi 11X Pro, Xiaomi 11i, and Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge devices for seamless SA support. By Diwali, most devices will receive OTA updates.”

Currently, only Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are rolling out 5G in India in both standalone and non-standalone modes in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi. It is notable that the brand is one of the first to support 5G on its smartphones. Apple is set to offer 5G support in the near future, while Oppo has already provided full 5G support on its 5G phones.

In the same way, Samsung will release a software update by mid-November.  Google will release software for its Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 smartphone series soon. Muralikrishnan added, “We have shipped 7 million+ 5G smartphones to Indian consumers between May 2022 and June 2022. To ensure 5G readiness for users across India, we will continue to provide relevant support to the government and telecom operators.”
