Qualcomm’s next flagship SoC is almost here, so rumors are bound to start circulating more frequently. Digital Chat Station, a renowned Weibo tipster, suggests Qualcomm may launch two versions of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the near future.
A standard iteration will remain the same, but a high-frequency version will push clock speeds significantly higher. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1’s Prime core currently runs at 3.19 GHz, while the high-frequency option will run at least 3.4-3.5 GHz.
There is a possibility that the chipset will be the same, but after some binning at the factory, some units may be able to sustain higher clock speeds, resulting in an ultra-high frequency version. A significant improvement is also predicted in the GPU department, according to the report.
A couple of dozen flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process.
MediaTek’s next Dimensity chip may offer another impressive performance leap in the CPU department, potentially closing the gap between Dimensity and Snapdragon even further.
