OnePlus has launched two Snapdragon 8-series flagships this year. The OnePlus 10 Pro 5G was unveiled by the company in January 2021 and is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. TechGoing reports that OnePlus’ next flagship phone will feature the SM8550 chip by the end of 2022, according to a new leak by Digital Chat Station.
As the tipster mentioned, the SM8550 chip is part of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which is set to debut in November. SD8G2 is rumored to be a 4nm chip with a 1+2+2+3 architecture. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 arrived with 1+3+4 architecture.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to be equipped with one Cortex-X3 core, and two Cortex-A270 cores. Along with two Cortex-A710 cores, and three Cortex-A510 cores. It will come with Adreno 740 graphics along with a Snapdragon X70 5G modem. The SD8G2 is expected to deliver a 10 percent improvement over the SD8G1.
Regarding the OnePlus leak, the tipster has claimed that the company will focus on performance and design. The OnePlus 10 Pro 5G was released in China this year. It is likely that the next flagship equipped with the SD8G2 chip will be the OnePlus 11 Pro 5G. It may have better cameras with Hasselblad optimizations and an alert slider.
