As rumours swirl ahead of Apple’s announcement next week, rumours regarding the 2022 iPhone lineup are as frequent as ever. The two cutouts in the new “notch” will appear as one using unlit pixels from the display, according to one rumour. It would be controlled by the software whether or not to illuminate the pixels between the cutouts.
It is reported by an anonymous source to MacRumors with corroborating rumors circulating on Chinese social media. Foxconn employees involved in producing the iPhone 14 Pro are said to have spread the rumour.
In a report shortly after, 9to5Mac reported that these cutouts will also display Apple’s privacy indicators, which arrived with iOS 14. On the device, it shows when an app is actively using the microphone or video camera. In this way, more status icons could be displayed in the corners of the display.
The camera app is also expected to have an updated layout which moves some controls up the screen, according to 9to5Mac. Other settings will be located below the cutouts, with the flash and Live Photo buttons right up in the status bar.
As you watch videos or receive notifications, pixels could appear in this expanded cutout. Apple’s Face ID biometric solution would still be available with a less distracting solution than the notch.
During Apple’s Livestream event next week, the rumor will be confirmed, so don’t take it as truth. In addition to two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch iPhones, Apple will release four new iPhone models. This year, there will be no “mini” iPhone.
