According to Lu Weibing, General Manager of the Redmi brand, the company will launch a new Redmi K50 series smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC this month. There are now a few interesting details about this upcoming handset.
It is rumored that Redmi K50S Pro will be the official name of the forthcoming Redmi-branded smartphone with a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. Digital Chat Station reports that this phone will also have improved displays, cameras, and battery life.
The tipster also suggests that there is a telephoto camera present. Instead of a periscope module, it will likely be a normal 2x or 3x shooter.
With its 8MP telephoto camera, a 3x lens, and OIS, the China-exclusive Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition was the last Redmi phone with a zoom camera.
Previously, both the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro had an 8MP telephoto shooter with a 2x lens. After its debut, the Redmi K series was expected to have a proper wide + ultra-wide + telephoto camera setup. However, that did not happen.
There is a 2MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor on the Redmi K30 and Redmi K30 5G, but they are useless. Redmi K30 Pro features Xiaomi’s popular 5MP telemacro camera with autofocus. Despite being used by the entire Redmi K40 lineup (except the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition), this camera has been dropped by this year’s Redmi K50 series in favor of a useless 2MP macro lens.
In international markets, the Redmi K50S Pro will be known as Xiaomi 12T Pro. As a result, customers outside mainland China would be able to use a zoom camera on a flagship killer Xiaomi smartphone after a long time.
