India’s 5G spectrum auction has been completed. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telecom minister, announced the auction of 51,236 MHz of the total 72,098 MHz spectrum. It is valued at Rs1,50,173 crore and accounts for 71% of the total spectrum. Almost half of the airwaves sold in the 5G spectrum auction went to Reliance Jio, the largest bidder.
Jio said on Monday it will celebrate “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” with the rollout of the “world’s most advanced 5G network throughout India.” Details could be shared on August 15, when India celebrates 75 years of independence.
With its bid of Rs 88,078 crore, Jio was the highest bidder at the 5G spectrum auction. The 700MHz 5G band is said to offer a better signal range than 2.4GHz.
By adopting breakthrough technologies, India will become a leading economic power in the world. This was the vision and conviction that led to Jio’s birth. Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, commented that Jio’s 4G rollout was unmatched in terms of speed, scale, and societal impact. The company will offer 5G-enabled services, platforms, and solutions to accelerate India’s digital revolution in sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and e-government.
