Since there were no chips available in September, the JioPhone Next was delayed till Diwali (early November). The carrier did provide more facts regarding the new low-cost smartphone.
However, Jio and Google collaborated to produce Pragati OS, an Android adaptation built for the Indian market with various features focused on specific concerns (“Pragati” means “progress”).
“Translate Now” will assist people to translate. They can speak into the phone and have it translated. “Read Aloud” may read any text from any app to the user. The phone will also run Jio apps.
The carrier revealed that the JioPhone Next will employ a Snapdragon chipset, but not the model number. Made in India at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. In India, partner Neolync has received INR 200 million ($2.7 million) from Jio and INR 33.50 billion ($445 million) under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) plan.
On the back will be a 13 MP camera and an 8 MP camera on the front. Not confirmed by Jio. For now, watch the video below for an official first look at the JioPhone.
According to a report by Live Mint, Jio Phone Next will go on sale on November 4, the day after Diwali. Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Group is introducing Jio Phone Next, a low-cost smartphone with some interesting features.
