On October 4, Google will reportedly launch the next big update to Android. It is likely that the company will release its rumored Pixel Fold smartphone ahead of this major update.

XDA Developers reports that Google’s Android 12 will be one of the biggest updates to the Android platform in years. Also, additional details about Android 12.1 have surfaced, the report added. As part of this update, foldable phones would receive enhancements as well. Android 12 sc-v2, also referred to as Android 12.1, will be released next. Google’s Pixel Launcher has a hidden “taskbar” feature, which XDA discovered in its Developer Preview 2 for Android 12.

In most cases, this is found at the bottom of the screen, near the navigation bar. This UI features your most commonly used applications as well as recent apps you have used. In addition to multitasking capabilities, this taskbar was designed for tablets with big screens, which gives you more screen real estate to use. As you may already know, Google is rumored to launch the Pixel Fold later this year.

The company has not announced that it is bringing the new feature exclusive to the Pixel Fold, so just consider this to be mere speculation. However, one of the changes to the code implementing the new taskbar contains an image demonstrating how it works. We can see two different instances of the Chrome browser being used side by side in this image. The foldable phone appears to be still in testing and is divided in half down the middle with a line.
