There have been rumours and reports that Samsung is planning to use vapour-chamber cooling on the S22 series. Android Authority reports that this may not be the case.

Samsung to ditch the Vapour Cooling Chamber:

The performance and experience of the phone are of course determined by heat dissipation, but the cost is important as well, which is why Samsung appears to be planning to abandon vapour cooling for thermal graphite pads. FrontTron on Twitter spread this rumour.

Samsung did not choose to go with vapour-chamber cooling because of the high cost, according to the tipster. The company’s flagship Galaxy S10 series previously utilized cooling technology. In order to dissipate the heat generated by its mobile processor, Samsung next opted for multi-layered graphite thermal pads.

Some models of the Galaxy Note 20 series used graphite thermal pads, while others included copper vapour chambers for cooling. The lack of vapour chamber cooling on some Note 20 Ultra phones led some users to believe that this was the reason the phones got so hot.

Additionally, a thermal engineer quoted in iFixit said that Samsung was able to sell a large number of devices. Therefore, the cost did not matter. As a result of having a vapour chamber cooling system in its phones, the company estimated it sold approximately a million more phones.

Nonetheless, this technology does not become the buzz it once was, and this could be in part due to it not being used in the Galaxy S22, as per Android Authority.
