We have already seen several leaks that have ruined Samsung’s grand Galaxy A52s unveiling expected later this month. A little information about its successor, the Galaxy A53, has now emerged online. A report from Galaxyclub.nl claims the mid-ranger will sport the same 64MP lens found on its predecessor, which shouldn’t come as a surprise at this point. Galaxy A50 smartphones are known for recycling hardware over generations, so the 64MP lens is expected to stay for a while.
The Galaxy A53 will not become available until early 2022. The Galaxy A52 was launched in March 2020, so we can use that as an approximate date for the Galaxy A53. However, it is still unclear if 5G will be available alongside LTE. Depending on the market, we could determine this.
It is a little too early to speculate what hardware the Galaxy A53 will sport, but we can extrapolate quite a bit based on previous Galaxy A50 series smartphones. We can expect the Snapdragon 778G SoC from the Galaxy 52s to be used if the phone is 5G-only. An upgrade to battery capacity would be ideal, as it is overdue. Lastly, the Galaxy A53 is likely to reuse the Galaxy A52 5G’s 120Hz AMOLED screen.
In regards to the cameras, we know that the 64MP primary sensor is here to stay. It would be nice to have a telephoto lens similar to that found on the Galaxy A72. Samsung’s 5MP macro and depth sensors on the Galaxy A50 series are little more than dead weight at this point. Samsung seems to have followed the Chinese OEMs’ lead by reusing them across the entire product stack, which is unfortunate.
