The reports indicate Apple will change its camera module production process. Apparently, Apple uses preassembled camera modules, which are then assembled into smartphones.
The report reveals Korean company, Hyvision System, will supply Foxconn with “camera module inspection equipment.” This kind of equipment checks the alignment of the axes of different cameras. Apple will no longer be supplied with fully assembled double and triple camera modules, but will instead purchase individual cameras sensors and assemble the assemblies themselves.
Sources say Apple ordered enough components for 90 million iPhone 13 units. Further, the report states there is a 20% increase over the amount it ordered for the iPhone 12. According to Apple’s recent quarterly earnings call, the change may also be due to supply chain issues. This would be concerning for the company’s next quarter’s revenue including new iPhones, the Apple Watch, and AirPods.
