SVP Devices & Services at Google Rick Osterloh sat down for a recent interview. He revealed the final secret regarding the upcoming Google Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro Superphones – their cost.

Spiegel’s interview was conducted with a native German speaker. Mr. Osterloh stated that Google would compete for the flagship segment of the smartphone market with its “expensive” Pixel 6 Pro. However, the Pixel 6 is also priced in the “upper section.”

So, the Galaxy S21 Ultra starts at $1199; the iPhone 13 Pro Max costs at least $1099 and has a periscope camera and high refresh rate display. We can also reasonably expect that a Google Pixel 6 Pro will run north of a grand.

While the Pixel 4 XL was the most expensive Pixel, it wasn’t the Pixel 3 XL or Pixel 3 XL that was the most costly. Those puppies cost $999 and don’t have much to compare with the best Android flagships at the time.

Anyone considering purchasing the Pixel 6 Pro will be concerned by the “we weren’t in the smartphone brand segment for the last two years – nor before that.” sentence. Google will set the price for the Pixel 6 Pro according to whether it considers it its first true smartphone flagship.

Google will look to maximize its “first flagship smartphone” by reducing the cost of its periscope camera components. Therefore, we don’t expect the Pixel 6 Pro to be less expensive than the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Google’s Pixel 6 price could once again be comparable to that of Apple and Samsung in America, such as the Galaxy S21+ and the iPhone 12 Pro. These handsets retail at $999. The Pixel 6 may be less expensive to expand market share, but it will still cost a lot for its class.

Our survey to find out how much you would pay for the Pixel 6 series so far revealed much smaller expenditures. So we’ll have to wait and see where Google’s newfangled Pixel pricing strategy takes us.
