Android 12 is expected to be available for public download in the coming months. Dev Previews, as well as Betas, will be released throughout the process. Google released Android 12 Beta version 3.1 an hour ago.

It’s primarily a bug-fix release. While we dig into it and find any gems, we can enjoy some tea made from the AOSP Gerrit. Google seems content with Android 13’s internal codename. The winner is Tiramisu.

Google has decided to internally call the next Android version, Android 13, Tiramisu, per a commit made on the AOSP Gerrit. This is the very first mention of an internal codename that will be used for the next version. To be clear, Android 13 will be the public name for the next version.

Google used a dessert name for Android versions, which was common for around a decade. Google discontinued this practice with Android 10, aka Android Q, and changed the name of Android into what we know today. These codenames still exist internally. Android 10 was Quince Tart. Red Velvet Cake is Android 11, and Snow Cone, Android 12.
