Earlier we saw Samsung and Huawei launching the world’s first chipset with 5G modem built-in at IFA. Now we have mobile chipset leader Qualcomm announcing their roadmap for the 2020 chipsets.
As per the source, Qualcomm has revealed its roadmap for 2020 smartphone chipsets along with new 5G chipset with RF transceiver, and RF Front-end called as Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System. The new Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System will help the consumer to achieve the fastest 5G networks. It also supports both mmWave 5G and Sub-6GHz 5G networks. Currently, the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System is being shipped to smartphone OEM’s and we can expect the devices with new chipset to arrive by late 2019.
Further, the Qualcomm also confirmed that they are working on bringing the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System to its Snapdragon 8,7,& 6 series by 2020. Further, Qualcomm has begun working with LG, Nokia, and Motorola for the new Snapdragon 7 series 5G SoC which will be built on 7nm process.
Further, the new chipset will also support all-region and frequency bands. The new 7series 5G chipset is under testing by Oppo, Realme, Redmi, Vivo, Motorola, HMD Global (Nokia licensee) and LG Electronics. We can see the new devices powered by Snapdragon 7 series 5G SoC by the end of 2019.
Qualcomm will also launch the Snapdragon 6 series 5G SoC soon which will make some affordable 5G devices in 2020.
