Earlier we saw various leaks and rumours about the successor to the Sony Xperia 1 aka the Sony Xperia 2. Now that leak turns out to be fake as Sony relaunches the Compact series with rebranding simply the Sony Xperia 5 at IFA.
Sony Xperia 5 comes in Black, Blue, Grey and Red colours and will go on sale from Oct 2019 in select countries. Sony Xperia 5 is priced at £699 (Rs.61,990/-) in the UK. The Sony Xperia 5 comes with a similar design as the Sony Xperia 1 but with an additional rear camera. The Sony Xperia 5 weighs 164 grams and is 8.2 mm thick.
The Sony Xperia 5 sports 6.1 inches FHD+ OLED HDR Display with X1 Engine for mobile and 21:9 aspect ratio. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The Sony Xperia 5 is powered by SD855 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It also features a microSD card for further storage expansion.
The Sony Xperia 5 features triple rear cameras with 12MP primary Exmor RS sensor with an aperture of f/1.6, secondary 12MP 135° ultra-wide-angle sensor with an aperture of f/2.4 and 12MP telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4 and 2X optical zoom, Hybrid OIS/EIS, Predictive Capture, and LED flash. The Sony Xperia 5 comes with 8MP selfie shooter with an aperture of f/2.0, 84-degrees Wide-angle lens.
The connectivity option includes Dual SIM with Dual 4G LTE and VoLTE, Dual Band Wifi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, A-GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C port, NFC, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos support. It also comes with an IP68 rating making it dust and water-resistant.
The Sony Xperia 5 packs 3140 mAh battery with Xperia Adaptive Charging technology and USB Power Delivery (USB PD) fast charging. The device runs on Android 9 Pie out of the box.
