Earlier we saw Google betting its big on the ultra-cheap budget smartphone with a lighter version of Android with Android Go OS. It has been two years since the Android Go went official but still, the devices aren’t smoother in the overall experience. We saw many brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Nokia etc jumping into the Android Go race.
Now Qualcomm is developing an ultra-low-end chipset specifically for Android Go phones. As per the source, the Qualcomm first low-end chipset is called as QM215. The missing of letter S in the naming of the chipset makes us think that Qualcomm is making a separate market out of Snapdragon lineup.
As per the source, the QM215 will be Quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz along with 660 MHz faster GPU. Further, the QM215 will be similar to SD410 or SD425 SoC probably with outdated specs. Further, Qualcomm has also begun testing on their proprietary device which is coupled with 1GB/2GB LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB/16GB internal storage.
FQM215 SoC will support HD+ resolution at least 1440×720 pixels. The chipset also comes with support for a fingerprint scanner. We are still not sure when will Qualcomm officially launch the QM215 SoC but we can confirm that the Qualcomm is targeting some markets like India.
