The next iPad mini could feature OLED displays instead of IPS LCD panels. According to reports, Apple is testing Samsung-made OLED screens for its smallest iPad, which would certainly make a welcome change.
According to rumors, it will launch around two years after its predecessor launched last October. In 2023, it was also rumored that the iPad mini would get an OLED panel, but that didn’t happen, so introducing the new display tech had to be postponed.
As Apple invests in the smallest iPad, the iPad mini line is likely doing well sales-wise. Next year, we might finally see all iPads have OLED screens, excluding the entry-level model, which will likely stick with LCD to stay affordable.
The iPad mini’s OLED screen will likely be LTPS, not LTPO, and definitely not a Tandem OLED. It will be a single-stack display with decent, but not record-breaking brightness, and probably no high refresh rate, which will continue to be a differentiating factor.
