Sony’s Xperia 1 VII is predicted to get a major camera update, along with an unexpected nod to the Walkman brand. According to an insider from the Xperia community, Sony’s upcoming 2025 flagship could have a much-improved telephoto lens. It is still unclear when the product will be available in the US.
Esato forum user spektykles, a respected source among Xperia fans, leaked the information. As spektykles reported recently, the Xperia 1 VII’s telephoto sensor will increase to “1/2″ in size—a notable jump from 1/3.5” Exmor RS on the Xperia 1 VI. The tilde indicates that it is an estimate.
The sensor will likely be larger, but it will still deliver sharper images and better low-light performance. While talk of all three rear cameras getting Exmor T sensors swirls, this telephoto detail seems compelling.Sony’s imaging heritage is also aligned with this initiative.
“Welcome back, Walkman,” wrote spektykles alongside the old Sony Ericsson “liquid energy” logo. Could this be the Xperia Walkman revival, echoing yesteryear’s W-Series, or just a spruced-up Sony Music Center app?
Alternatively, the logo could be a deliberate misdirection. With Xperia 2025 rumor context, it’s tempting to imagine a music-focused flagship, but details are scarce. The question remains whether Sony is blending cutting-edge cameras with retro audio.
