Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple’s 20th anniversary will be marked by a ‘major shake-up. ‘ For the first time, there will be a foldable iPhone, and the company is also planning a ‘bold new Pro model.’

Jony Ive’s original vision for the iPhone would finally be realized with this device. According to reports, he had long pushed for an iPhone resembling a single sheet of glass. With the iPhone X, this concept became very clear.

Despite making thicker and less sleek iPhones in recent years, Apple seems to be moving toward what Jony Ive would’ve wanted. With the launch of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air model later this year and the 20th anniversary pro iPhone next year, this shift will continue to unfold.

Most people probably think an iPhone with more glass would be more difficult to repair, but it makes perfect sense to Apple. The 20th anniversary would also benefit from this sort of shakeup.

Gurman has reported that the iPhone 17 Air is just the first step towards all iPhones becoming ultra-thin in the future. The iPhone 19 Pro could feature both an ultra-thin and glassy design, making an iPhone that looks like a sheet of glass.

Besides the fact that it will use more glass, Gurman does not provide any key design details.

iPhone 17 Pro won’t get any Bold Design upgrade:

According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, the iPhone 17 Pro design might not necessarily represent a huge leap over last year. Recent rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro will look far more like last year’s model than early rumors had suggested.

As Gurman stated in his newsletter, the iPhone 17 Pro will not have a ‘particularly bold new look’. The front camera will look ‘quite similar’ to the 16 Pro, but the back camera will be ‘significantly different.’

According to this report, contrary to early rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro will not have a Dynamic Island cutout. Further, Gurman says that the two-tone design won’t happen.

There won’t be a huge leap from the 16 Pro to the 17 Pro, although a camera bar design seems to be sticking around. Just the iPhone body’s color will fill it.
