With Xiaomi at the forefront, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) has an intriguing start. The manufacturer has shown a brand-new Android phone prototype aka Xiaomi Modular Optical System targeted at photography enthusiasts.
Xiaomi presented a new modular phone idea today at MWC. The device’s main feature is its attachable lens module, which contains the camera sensor and is attached to the phone via magnets.
Don’t get too excited if you’re already considering purchasing one. Although Xiaomi provided few specifics regarding the phone, it stated it had no plans to release it. Although Xiaomi claims it is interested in consumer input, it has no plans to make it a retail product.
Although this modular phone is intriguing, the concept isn’t very novel. Sony used the QX100 in the same manner. Xiaomi also previously developed a Xiaomi 12S Ultra prototype with a 35mm Leica lens. The distinction here is that the camera sensor is part of this lens module, while the other instances are extensions of the phone’s sensors.
