The Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF, Qualcomm’s latest modem-to-antenna technology, is the successor to last year’s Qualcomm X80 5G. It is the company’s eighth-generation 5G modem solution and its fourth generation that incorporates artificial intelligence.

With the X85, you can enhance performance for applications driven by AI and connected devices. In areas with high user density, the modem is designed to deliver improved streaming, downloading, and uploading speeds and increased network reliability. Additional benefits include a longer battery life and more accurate location services.

A key feature of the X85 is its support for 5G Advanced, emphasizing its potential use in Android smartphones. In addition, Qualcomm intends to expand the technology into other sectors, such as personal computers, fixed wireless access points, automotive applications, and extended reality (XR) devices.

Compared to the previous generation, Qualcomm’s 5G AI Processor. It features dedicated tensor accelerator hardware optimized for 5G and 5G Advanced use cases. Qualcomm’s AI-Powered Data Traffic Engine delivers better end-user experience and performance, including AI-enhanced, dynamic gaming traffic prioritization, AI-enhanced OTT calling for more unmistakable voice and video calls, and Smooth Wi-Fi Cellular transfer.

Qualcomm is collaborating with various entities within the global wireless ecosystem, including network operators, infrastructure providers, and standards bodies, to facilitate the commercial deployment of X85 capabilities.

Qualcomm X82 5G Modem-RF

Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the Qualcomm X82 5G Modem-RF in parallel. This solution enables multi-gigabit downloads and uploads in mobile broadband applications.

Qualcomm offers M.2 and LGA reference designs based on X82 and X85 modems to streamline development across various industries. These reference designs are designed for use in Customer Premises Equipment (CPEs), mobile broadband (MBB) devices, PCs, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. They support the integration of the new modem solutions.

Customers are currently sampling the Qualcomm X85 and X82 5G modems. According to the company, devices incorporating these technologies will be available commercially in the second half of this year.
