From Google Assistant to the AI-powered Gemini, Google has already built useful smart digital assistants. The company’s vision of a true context-aware assistant is still alive and well, and this goal isn’t slowing down.
A new report says that Pixie, which was expected to debut with the Pixel 9 lineup but did not, is now expected to debut with Pixel 10 under a new name: Pixel Sense.
This is the first time Pixie has been rumored since 2023, but it’s now under a new brand name. Using data from various Google services, Pixel Sense is designed to provide a more personalized and intelligent user experience.
It is reported that Google describes Pixel Sense as a way of “getting the most personalized experience based on your activities on your Pixel.” Google will integrate information from Calendar, Chrome, Contacts, Docs, Files, Gmail, Keep Notes, Maps, Messages, Phone, Photos, Recorder, Screenshots, Wallet, YouTube Music, YouTube, and possibly even an unreleased app called Aurelius.
Pixel Sense can process media files, including text, images, and AI-generated content. Similar to Google’s Pixel Screenshots app, it will even handle screenshots.
As a bonus, everything will reportedly be processed on-device, which is a big win for privacy and security. Pixel Sense aims to be a more context-aware, personalized version of Google Assistant.
In terms of timing, Google might take the lead. The Pixel 10’s AI assistant might arrive well before Apple’s upgraded Siri when it launches later this year.
