Apple’s MacBook Air line today has three changes: a new chip, a new color, and an upgraded front camera.

A new high-performance M4 chip, introduced last year for iMacs and Mac minis, is now available for MacBook Air models. This chip has 10 CPU cores and 8 or 10 GPU cores, depending on the configuration. According to Apple, the new chip provides 1.6x faster performance in Excel, 2x faster in iMovie, and 2x faster in Adobe Photoshop.

Additionally, the new chip better supports external displays. With the M4 MacBook Air, you can connect up to two 6K external displays at 60Hz instead of just one on the previous generation.

The new MacBook Air models also feature an updated 12MP Center Stage camera, which is also found on MacBook Pro models. With this camera, you can capture 1080p video while maintaining a higher resolution image. When using the ultra-wide focal length, you can move around the room while the subject is centered in the frame, and when using the Desk View feature, you can take a perspective-corrected view of your desk below.

MacBook Air models now come in a new color: Sky Blue. This metallic light blue “creates a dynamic gradient when light reflects off of its surface.” It is also available in Midnight, Starlight, and Silver.

Besides these changes, the 2025 MacBook Air remains virtually identical to the previous model, including the same display, keyboard, trackpad, memory and storage options, speakers, and microphone array. It does have a slightly larger 53.8Wh battery than the previous 52.6Wh unit, but the battery life is the same. There are two sizes of MacBook Air with M4: 13-inch and 15-inch.
