In October of this year, Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. It is expected that various Chinese flagship phones equipped with the SD8E2 chip will be released in the fourth quarter, similar to last year. This new chip may be adopted first by Xiaomi’s 16 series. By the end of the year, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi will also unveil the Redmi K90 series. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the K90 could have a custom chipset.
There have been two variants of Redmi’s K-series flagships for the Chinese market over the past few years: a standard model and a Pro model powered by the previous and latest Snapdragon flagships.
The rumour mill has speculated that the Redmi K90 will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite, while the K90 Pro will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The latest leak from tipster Digital Chat Station suggests otherwise.
Qualcomm’s upcoming SM8845 and SM8850 chipsets are anticipated to power the Redmi K90 and K90 Pro, according to a recent Weibo post by Digital Chat Station.
As of now, Qualcomm is expected to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the SM8850, while Redmi will release a customized 3nm+ Snapdragon 8 chip in the SM8845.DCS claims that this chipset offers benchmark scores comparable to those of the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750) chipset.
Moreover, the tipster indicates that Redmi K90’s chipset selection is focused on price positioning, prioritizing affordability over raw performance.
