At the Galaxy S25 launch event, Samsung teased a new tri-fold phone in development, though they kept details under wraps. The device is expected to arrive in Q3 2025, likely around the same time as the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. As is often the case with Samsung’s upcoming devices, leaks are already shedding some light on what we can expect.

According to industry insider Ross Young, the tri-fold will feature a 6.49-inch cover display, which, when fully unfolded, will offer an impressive 10-inch screen. Interestingly, Young also notes that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have the same 6.49-inch cover display. This points to Samsung’s move away from the narrower cover screens found on previous Fold models, like the Z Fold 6. What makes Samsung’s tri-fold stand out is its unique folding mechanism.

Unlike Huawei’s tri-fold, which folds in an S- or Z-shape with part of the screen left exposed, Samsung is said to be using a “G-style” fold. This design allows the screen to fold inward from both sides, ensuring the entire display stays protected when the device is closed. This approach could significantly improve the phone’s durability, as there’s no exposed screen to risk damage.

To make this innovative design work, Samsung is reportedly developing a new type of display and protective film, specifically for this tri-fold phone. Due to the complexity of producing such a device, the production numbers are expected to be limited, positioning this model as a premium, experimental device rather than a mainstream flagship.
