Much talk has been going on about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series. According to the latest news, the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including the new iPhone 17 Air, will feature Samsung’s latest M14 OLED panels.
Samsung’s latest and best for 2025, the Galaxy S25 series, doesn’t include this cutting-edge display panel.
Samsung’s M14 OLED display technology reportedly reaches a brighter 20-30% level than its previous M13 panel used in the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has an improved version, dubbed M13+, but it still falls short of what the upcoming iPhone 17 models will have.
The M14 was previously reserved for the Pro models of the iPhone 16 series. Apple has narrowed the gap between its standard and Pro iPhone 17 models by adding the M14 to the entire lineup. However, the 120Hz refresh rate on non-pro models remains to be seen.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series features AI ProScaler technology but can’t fully compensate for the hardware gap created by not adopting the M14. On the other hand, Samsung Display benefits from Apple by buying more expensive M14 panels from Samsung.
Rumours suggest Apple will use the M14 OLED across the entire iPhone 17 lineup. All models will have brighter, more vibrant displays.
