The anticipation for the iPhone 17 Pro Max continues to build, and the latest buzz from Digital Chat Station suggests a notable design change: a more compact display cutout.
According to the tipster, the next iteration of the Pro Max will feature a slimmer Dynamic Island, integrating metalens technology into the Face ID components to reduce its size. Metalenses employ nanostructures to finely manipulate light at a microscopic level, offering the potential to streamline smartphone camera modules by replacing traditional, bulkier lenses.
However, this new information seems to clash with earlier insights from Apple supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo, who indicated that the entire iPhone 17 lineup would retain the same Dynamic Island design as the iPhone 16 series. As with all rumours, especially ones involving tech giants like Apple, it’s wise to approach these reports with scepticism until more concrete information emerges.
iPhone 17 Pro Design:
Last month, rumours about the iPhone 17 Air featuring a prominent camera bar made rounds, and it was anticipated that the iPhone 17 Pro would sport a similar design.
According to the latest renders by Jon Prosser from Front Page Tech, the iPhone 17 Pro is indeed set to include a camera bar as previously rumoured. However, the layout of the camera will stay consistent with previous models. Prosser notes that the phone will have a larger camera bar on the back, housing the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR Scanner on its right side. Despite the heftier camera setup, the phone is expected to feel lighter, though it’s still uncertain whether it will be crafted from titanium or aluminium. Additionally, the phone is rumoured to showcase a two-tone finish, with the camera bar sporting a darker hue compared to the rest of the rear panel.
Further details provided by Majin Bu, who earlier shared images of the model, suggest that the camera module on the iPhone 17 will be broader than that on the iPhone 17 Air, featuring a rounded rectangular shape. The main and ultra-wide cameras on the base model are reportedly swapped, with the smaller ultra-wide camera possibly being integrated beneath the Dynamic Island components.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September 2025, with more specifics likely to emerge in the upcoming months.
